Product Description
Simple attractive embroidery on very vintage never-used fine pure cotton set of two matching single sheets and matching pair of European pillow shams all with a monogram E. B. . These were obviously custom ordered and stored never used e still in their original folds and never washed or used. Perfect condition. The sheets have scalloped lines of embroidery ending in floral abstract starbursts and the shams are unembellished except for the monogram so may be mixed with other linens easily. German sheets from this period had buttonholes on the edges in order to fasten them to a blanket. This protected the hard-to-wash heavy woolen blankets so that only the sheets need be washed rather than the blankets e blanket washing was a yearly endeavor. The button holes can be ignored of course. The shams are made with two rows of buttonholes and would have had double-sided buttons rather like a cufflink e you can sew two buttons loosely back-to-back to replicate these but it is much easier to simply sew a button over each one of one of the sets of buttonholes and then button as one would regular buttoned shams. The sheets are singles and measure 60 x 100 and the shams measure 31. 75 x 30. Excellent unused condition.
