A special Mothers’ Day

We thought it would be fun to take a tour and see what we can include to make mothers’ day more special, from our own site.

First, a special breakfast. Crepes are always a special treat. Crepes. And of course good coffee! Carte Noire. All this served on a pretty tray, Tray with a lovely napkin, Napkin bud vase bud vase and some flowers.  Not to forget a pretty robe robefor mom to wear while she enjoys her breakfast.

The day continues in a relaxed way, maybe giving mom a chance to read one of her new books, Bookor doing a puzzle Puzzle.

Lunch is a casual affair, maybe something light because a special dinner is planned for the evening. A mint spritzer with soda water and mint syrup mintadds a special touch and some color. The table looks pretty with a colorful Jacquard tablecloth Jacquard, and since the weather is so nice, lunch is outside on the deck, and served in melamine dishes, Melaminefor fuss-free break-proof ease. Same goes for the glassware glassware.

The afternoon passes quickly, maybe a nap, a walk, a visit from friends, whatever is most enjoyable.

Dinner is a special gourmet treat. Beginning with some French paté pate and toasts toasts, served with a chilled cocktail, made with Provence Syrups Syrup. A second course of pasta pasta is always a pleaser, especially with a pesto sauce pesto. Dessert is just as special, with Griottines Griottines, cherries in liqueur, served over ice cream.

And so the day ends, with mom relaxing in comfort on her wonderful vintage bed linens linens, soft, silky and so comfortable.

February 2 is the ‘Chandeleur’ in French speaking countries

and that means only one thing: CREPES!

Francine Crepes Mix 380 g or 13.4 oz

40 days precisely, after Christmas. It is the commemoration of the presentation of Jesus at the temple, by Mary. To celebrate this occasion, in the 8th century, pope Gélase organized a sort of ‘Feast of Lights’ where everyone would light a candle or torch. The celebration was called Chandeleur (from the latin Candella, and the word Chandelle in French means candle). Celebrated in Europe officially since 1372, so it’s been going on for a while….

Now why crepes you ask? When starting the tradition, Gélase replaced a pagan holiday, called Lupercales (approx Feb 15). Tradition had people eating a sort of galette on this occasion, the ancestor of the crepe.

You can make them sweet (with regular crepe batter) or savory (in which case we recommend buckwheat batter for a hearty taste)

Francine Buckwheat crepes mix 440g – 15.5 oz

What to have for dinner on February 2:  why not have savory crepes filled with, for instance, a mix of mushrooms, ham, cheese and bechamel sauce, lightly browned in the oven?  Crepes can be filled with anything really, and getting a nice crusty cheese topping is a bonus.

Sweet crepes: Nutella of course!  Or just plain sugar, jam, honey, syrup, or anything you’d have on pancakes.  Fresh fruit and cream is a nice combination too!
