Gavottes are a range of fine biscuits (cookies in Europe, Australia etc are called Biscuits), delicate plain or chocolate coated crispy crepe dentelles, perfect for snacking any time of the day.

The authentic Gavotte crepe dentelle is a fine biscuit made following a recipe handed down since 1920. Gavottes are light and golden, composed of super fine crusty layers all rolled up. The absolutely unique manufacturing process is a closely kept secret,and these cookies are exported world-wide. Great on their own, with coffee, Champagne, or wine, as a finishing touch for an ice-cream or creme dessert.

This box contains about 150 pieces, and is designed with a dispenser.

The company is known early on for their chocolate and liqueur fruit confections and their chocolate bars mostly used for baking. Their oldest product is the ‘Guinette’ a cherry bonbo in liqueur surrounded by chocolate – luscious!

In the late 1970s an error happens during production.  One of the machines producing the bars gets twisted somehow, producing a new type of bar, fine and serpentine in shape.  And thus the ‘Sarments du Médoc’ are born.

The product is rewarded in 1983 by a Candy Award at the Fancy Food show in Washington DC.  This prize is given to the best confection imported to the United States.  They are available in different flavors.

These sarments, are fine S shaped twigs of chocolate, flavored with fruit or other flavors such as coffee.    Delicate and refined enough for the most elegant party.  They melt in your mouth but are also crunchy!

Advent (from the Latin word adventus meaning “Coming’) is observed in many Western Christian Churches, a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas.

It is the beginning of the Western liturgical year begins on Advent Sunday.

The progression of the season is often marked with an Advent Calendar, a practice introduced by German Lutherans. At least in the Roman Catholic, Lutheran and Anglican calendars, Advent starts on the fourth Sunday before December 25.

The origin of the Advent Calendar can be traced back to the 19th Century. Religious families made a chalk line on the door for every day in December until Christmas Eve.

The first known Advent Calendar which was made by handwork dates from 1851.

Other early styles were the Adventclock or the Advent candle – a candle for each of the 24 days until Christmas, like todays Advent wreath.

Sometimes little pictures were hang up on the wall – one for each day in December.

In 1902 a Christian Bookshop in Hamburg, Germany published a Christmas Clock which was very similar to that published 1922 by the St. Johannis printing company. (Dominik Wunderlin, lic. phil. Swizzerland).

1903 appears to be the year of the first printed Advent Calendar.

In 1904 an Advent Calendar was inserted in the newspaper “Neues Tagblatt Stuttgart” as a gift for their readers. In the early days, Bible verses would often replace the pictures behind the doors.

We know that Advent Calendars filled with Chocolate were already available in 1958.

Fabric permanent Advent calendars can be reused and filled with small treats, to even small symbolic items to help teach children the meaning of the time of year.

To create a fancy dessert, use mini pie shells and line with melted chocolate (try some Voisin Bittersweet Chocolate.

Top with some Jam, for example the Coco Passion (a mix of Coconut and Passion Fruit, not to sweet, not too tart, just right!).

Garnish with some whipped cream and a piece of fruit or candied fruit peel. Voila!

A few other important details:

• PLEASE, we insist, no strollers, no big bulky bags, or coats.
• We encourage you to leave children at home.  The warehouse is big, with concrete floors and high shelves, and not a great place for little ones.  We do not think they will enjoy it as much as staying cosily at home!  And you can shop more leisurely too.
• We strongly suggest perusing the website and making lists (write down the item number, that will save a lot of time) so you know what you want to see and we can point you to it.  We have thousands upon thousands of items, and trust us, it can get overwhelming.  In addition, we are not set up as a store, so some items are less visible than others, on high shelves or in big boxes.  We will be happy to pull anything out to show you, but you have to know it’s there
• Parking is available at the warehouse and we are arranging overflow parking just a few steps down the street. Dress comfortably and if necessary warmly (if it is cold outside, the warehouse will be cold too, it is not heated)

OUR SUGGESTIONS:

• Make a shopping list, especially vintage items.  We can show you what you want to see but a list ahead of time will be easier, believe us. We have thousands of items online, and we cannot display them
• Wear comfortable shoe, and layers.  It’s heated and should be warm but a cold spell might pose a challenge.  Layers are easy to deal with!
• Bring a friend, twice the fun and a free gift (see coupon below)
• Think of gifts for friends, co-workers, future baby or wedding showers, future birthdays, not just holidays.  Replenish your stash of ‘just in case’ gifts, we have lots and lots of small items ideal for this (and for stocking stuffers)
• Take time to browse the site so you will know what we have (and we have LOTS)
